Fire and smoke protection plays an important role in safeguarding buildings. SÄLZER solutions are used when a fire-resistant unit also needs to provide protection against explosions and/or forced entry, breakouts or ballistic attacks. The SÄLZER constructions have been developed precisely for such combined requirements.
SÄLZER also provides certified solutions for using escape routes (panic function) to exit buildings in an emergency; these solutions deliver protection against fire, forced entry, as well as bullet resistance.
Challenges in the event of fires:
- Intense heat rages for a long time
- Different coefficients of thermal expansion in system components
- Smoke and gas penetrate the smallest openings
Room dividers and protection against heat radiation
To prevent fire from spreading and protect people from harm, a barrier needs to be created that holds back the flames as well as fire gas and smoke. SÄLZER doors provide thermal insulation and thereby protect against the heat from fire. This is regulated by European standard DIN EN 13501-2, in which the highest category is EI (Integrity and Insulation). The SÄLZER S4 series, for example, has the classification EI90, whereby the 90 indicates the resistance time in minutes. "T90" is a classification that is often still used and comes from the German standard DIN 4102-5 with a comparable performance principle.
Certified fire protection with a variety of different applications
Combined fire protection
The S4 series steel door and the tubular frame steel door SECUFIRE® door protect against fire and heat for 90 (EI90/T90) or 30 minutes (T30/EI30) and smoke (S200). They are therefore ideal for use in areas such as the ends of corridors in prisons. Of course, the doors have been tested with the prison cell locks specified for law enforcement and forensics.
Combined security – tested and certified
Even though rigid constructions are required to safeguard against bullets, flexibility is needed when it comes to protecting against explosions, and stability for burglar resistance – completely contradictory requirements that we are able to meet thanks to our specialist expertise.
Bullet resistance up to FB7-NS, burglar resistance up to RC 5, explosion resistance, e.g. for steel doors up to a pressure of 2,750 kPa (27.5 bar) as well as fire and smoke protection up to T90/EI90/S200.
Extensive additional fittings
The cell doors in the S4Zseries in use for five decades have been tested in accordance with the guidelines for prison and detention room doors from the region of Saxony-Anhalt and feature optional extensive additional fittings, such as food hatches and wide-angle door viewers.
