The SÄLZER products also target protection against breakouts and liberation from the outside. The special construction of the units provides no opportunities for inmates to injure themselves or attempt to commit suicide. The robust and certified design also guarantees extremely effective protection against vandalism. Moreover, our steel constructions protect against fire and/or smoke.
Challenges of break-out resistance:
- A great deal of time to manipulate possible weak points
- Prevention of possible places to commit suicide
- Ensuring opening in the event of an emergency
There is no separate standard for checking the break-out resistance properties. In order to ensure reliable, verified protection, we test the break-out-resistant doors, windows, façades and grilles in accordance with the European standard for forced entry resistance DIN EN 1627-1630 from both sides: from the outside against attempted break-ins and aided escapes, and from the inside against break-out attempts by inmates or patients.
Unlike with burglar resistance, break-out-resistant systems always need to ensure security on both sides, as break-ins and break-out incidents differ significantly. While a professional burglar will try to break in as quickly as possible with a heavy device, escapees tend to have no tools, but a great deal of time.
SÄLZER systems are therefore always tested as a whole for weak and attack points. In addition to testing in accordance with the European standard for burglar resistance (DIN EN 1627-1630), we have taken the advice of industry specialists and analyse real break-out attempts. This approach has proven its worth and, to date, nobody has yet managed to escape through a SÄLZER system.
The steel doors S4 series and steel tubular door SECUFIRE® series protect additional against fire, smoke and heat. They are therefore ideal for use in areas such as the ends of corridors in prisons. Of course, the doors have been tested with the prison cell locks specified for law enforcement and forensics.
Corners and edges always pose a risk to inmates harming themselves either accidentally or deliberately. They are also target sites for wilful damage. For these reasons, for example, all the fittings components in the outer and vent frame as well as glazing and rebate gaskets are covered in the METAS® window, for example. The vent profiles and glazing beads are particularly solid, round and flush-fitted. To ensure that nothing like cord can be slid into the vent overlap in the event of a suicide attempt, the gap in the corners between the outer frame false edge and the vent profile is covered by means of special components.
Despite the high security standards in German prisons, inmates still manage to escape. This is why SÄLZER has added the AVIAN heartbeat detector to its product range for judiciary use. The mobile device reliably detects people hidden in vehicles within seconds simply by placing a special sensor on the car body.
SÄLZER METAS® cell windows ensure the required level of security even without grilles, helping to significantly improve rehabilitation acceptance in forensic clinics. The grille-free system is also frequently used in holding cells in courts and by the police.
Grilles also fulfil an important function. They put off burglars and can therefore often prevent damage to property. To this end, SÄLZER has security grilles from the OXIR® series in its range.
The cell doors in the S4Zseries in use for five decades have been tested in accordance with the guidelines for prison and detention room doors from the region of Saxony-Anhalt and feature optional extensive additional fittings, such as food hatches and wide-angle door viewers.
