Bullet resistance
Bullet-resistant doors, windows and facades
SÄLZER security doors, windows and facades protect human lives against ballistic attacks. The special construction (profile, glazing, hardware etc.) and the professional installation ensure reliable protection.
The high security is proven by test certificates from accredited testing laboratories according the European standard for bullet resistance DIN EN 1522+1523 (table and UL752 standard see below). Despite the high security all products have an appealing design according to the requirements of the customer.
Sophisticated solutions for your security:
- Windows, facades, aluminum- steel plate or steel frame doors certified up to the highest resistant level FB7 NS.
- Furthermore protection against all portable fully automatic weapons including machine guns such as AK-47, AK-74, G3, M16, MG3.
- Security combinations against further threats: bullet resistant up to level FB7 NS combined with forced entry resistance up to RC5 (fixed window, steel doors up to RC5), blast resistant up to a pressure (steel doors) up to 2,750kPa (27.5bar), fire and smoke resistant up to EI90/ S200.
- All advance tests are carried out in our own ballistic testing center. This allows an optimized product design and under or over-sized security construction are avoided.
- We recommend complete secured elements incl. bullet-resistant wall connections (bullet resistant installation of the frame into the masonry).
- Reliable and durable hardware systems: despite of high wing or casement weights because of heavy bullet resistant glazing and strengthen profiles the SÄLZER doors and windows are easy to use.
- For weight reduction optional polycarbonate glazing can be used.
- Optional: integration in a supervisory system, integration of glass breakage detectors, electric locking systems, signal contacts and more.
- Further tests:
- VPAM APR 2006
- US-DOS SD-STD-01.01 Rev.G
- UL 752
Technical data
In accordance with the European test standard DIN EN 1522-1523 resistance classes from FB1 to FB7 are distinguished. In the different security levels the test elements are fired at from defined distances with different weapons, calibers and bullet energies. The higher the security class, the more massive the bombardment and the higher the demands on the construction. After each shot, a check is made to see if fragments have flown from the test element into the interior of the room, independently of the ballistic level. The test results must contain the addition: S = splinter, NS = no splinter.

Forced entry resistance
Protection against forced entry and vandalism
The number of burglaries is very high but the detection rate is low. SÄLZER offers a wide variety of tested and certified doors, windows, facades, grilles and many other products to protect against forced entry attempts. The elements are tested according to the European standard for forced entry resistance DIN EN 1627-1630 (table below). The tests are documented by test certificates from accredited testing institutes.
Individual security solutions:
- Windows, facades doors are tested up to resistant class RC 5 (fixed fields, steel doors up to RC6).
- Serie SECURON®provides forced entry resistance even in the tilted window position up to resistant class RC 3.
- Combined protection against various threats: forced entry resistance RC5 (fixed fields, steel doors up to RC6) combined with bullet resistance to FB 7-NS, blast resistance up to a pressure (steel doors) up to 2,750kPa (27,5bar) and fire and smoke resistance up to level EI90 / S200.
- The security doors are tested with anti-panic locks in accordance with DIN EN 179 and DIN EN 1125 up to protection class RC5 and are ideal for use in escape and rescue routes.
- Voluntary quality monitoring by an external certification center of the institute PfB Rosenheim (PfB CERT).
- The ‘German Police Crime Prevention’ (LKA Bayern) recommend SÄLZER as "manufacturer of forced entry resistant products".
- Many products and product variants are tested up to complete guardhouses or to panic rooms.
- Optional: integration in a supervisory system, integration of glass breakage detectors, electric locking systems, signal contacts and more.
- Compliance with other standards:
- Tests according to the standard of the US Department of State SD-STD-01.01 Rev.G.

Blast resistance
Effective protection against terroristic attacks
The destructiveness of a blast depends on many factors such as the size of the explosive charge, the duration of the blast wave and the distance to the source of the explosion. SÄLZER has extensively tested its products in life tests according to international standards for blast protection such as DIN EN 13123-2 (table below) or according to individual customer requirements.
Individual security concepts tested and certified:
- Open range tests according to DIN EN 13123-2 / 13124-2 (table below)
- Shock tube test tests according to DIN EN 13123-1 / 13124-1 (table below)
- Tests in accordance with customer requirements with different explsoive charges such as 500kg, blasted in 24 m.
- Specific requirements of the petrochemical industry with long pressure durations
- Classification according to GSA TS01-2003 | ISO 16933. SÄLZER recommend class GSA2, no injuries to humans in the room caused by the explosion (table below)
- Combinated security: blast resistance up to a pressure (steel doors) 2,750kPa (27.5bar) combined with protection against ballistic attacks up to FB 7-NS, forced entry resistance up to RC5 (fixed fields, steel doors up to RC6) and protection against fire and smoke up to EI90 / S200, BS 476 120 min.
- Compliance with following standards:
- Blast-resistant glazing according to ISO 16933, ISO 16934, DIN EN 13541 (special glass)
- ASTM F1642-04
- UFC 4-010-02 (US Department of Defence)

Accidents, deflagration
Protection against explosions of a mixture of gas and air
Explosions can have very different load profiles. While, for example, an explosion caused by TNT is characterised by a short duration of pressure at immensely high pressure, an exploding gas-air mixture in a petrochemical plant produces a long-lasting duration of pressure at lower pressure. This produces a much different stress profile compared to bomb explosions. SÄLZER has also developed, tested and certified special products for these requirements.
Extract from the extensive test history:
- Glazed double steel door, series S4es, reflected pressure 93 kPa (0,93 bar), reflected impulse 210,000 kPa-ms, pressure duration 4,500 ms, GSA 2 | ISO B.
- Openable aluminium window, Series S6es, reflected pressure 249 kPa (2,49 bar), reflected impulse 114,200 kPa-ms, pressure duration 880 ms, GSA 2 | ISO B.
- All test results classified in accordance with GSA-TS01-2003, GSA 2 and ISO 16933, ISO B (no splinters, see table below).
- In addition to the resistance against long-lasting duration of pressure, e.g. the steel doors provide additional protection against fire, T90/EI90, British Standard BS120 and against smoke S200.
- Option: protection against forced entry and ballistic attacks.

Break out resistance
Break out resistance, protection against vandalism, fire and suicide
There is no own testing standard to check the break out resistance of products. Because of this SÄLZER tests its doors, windows, facades and grills from both sides according to the standard for forced entry resistance DIN EN 1627-1630; from the outside against attempted break-ins and aided escapes, and from the inside against break-out attempts by inmates or patients.
The security products are constructed very solid so they offer also protection against vandalism attacks. Furthermore they are reliable and durable even by high mechanical use.
Our break out resistant products avoid suicide and injuries. For example, the profiles and glazing beads of METAS® cell window are rounded and flush, the hardware is installed concealed and no handle is necessary.
Furthermore is our prison cell door series S4Z tested according to the guidelines for prison doors of the federal state Saxony-Anhalt. The steel door series S4 and the steel tubular frame door SECUFIRE® protect additionally against fire (S4 series: EI90/T90, SECUFIRE®series T30/EI30), smoke resistance S200. The doors were tested with the high security locks, which are prescribed for prison and forensic facilities.
The SÄLZER break out resistant products:
- Cell dors S4Z series
- Steel door S4 series
- Cell window METAS®series
- Fassade S1es series
- Steel tubular frame door SECUFIRE®series
- Grilles OXIR®series
